JOB TITLE: SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST
GENERAL PURPOSE:
School Psychologists support students’ academic growth, social emotional learning, and behavioral needs by using problem solving skills, assessment tools, data-based decision-making, and the delivery of evidenced-based interventions. School psychologists collaborate and consult with educators, families, and other professionals to help create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments for all students.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
School psychologists provide a comprehensive range of services as described in the current standards from the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). The school psychologist functions as part of the school’s Multi-Tiered-System of Support (MTSS) Team. This team collaboratively provides a multi-tiered system of supports through implementation and monitoring of evidence-based behavioral and academic interventions for all students in need. The services provided should reflect the specific needs of the students, families, and schools.
Essential Responsibilities
- Consults and collaborates with administrators, teachers, counselors, parents, and community professionals in support of the Greenville County School District's Strategic Plan.
- Provides support to teachers in developing effective instructional strategies to meet the needs of all students in the classroom through individual or group consultation.
- Reviews data and assesses educational outcomes and the instructional implications for individual students and groups; assists in the development of instructional and behavioral interventions; monitors individual student progress; and evaluates the effectiveness of the instruction while providing modifications as necessary.
- Evaluates individual students using a variety of methods including, but not limited to, standardized, norm-referenced, and curriculum-based assessment. Conducts observations, interviews, and reviews data to determine students' educational needs in order to design interventions to address those needs.
- Participates in the special education eligibility process, interprets psychological data, and reviews information to aid in determining appropriate educational services for individual students.
- Assists special education teachers in the development of appropriate goals, strategies, and outcome measurement methods for students.
- Collaborates with school personnel to design, implement, and evaluate individual, classroom, and school-wide programs in classroom management, social skills, social problem solving, conflict resolution, decision making, and life skills.
- Participates in the Behavioral/Threat Assessment and Management (BTAM) procedures for individual students in order to determine the appropriate course of action.
- Ensures that adequate safeguards for privacy and confidentiality of information are maintained according to the Greenville County School District’s regulations and professional ethics.
- Other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Qualifications:
The person in this position should have the following credentials:
- Master’s Degree plus 30 hours of graduate study; and
- Valid South Carolina Certification as a School Psychologist I, II, or III.
